Table of Contents

What are the most important elements of the character creator in Oblivion Remastered? This guide page focuses on all steps of creating a hero in the remaster. Available tabs include race, origin, gender (body type), face, hair, zodiac sign, class, and name. We also answer the question of whether the choices made in the prologue are final and whether they can be changed once the proper game begins.

Race and origin

  1. The character creator in remastered Oblivion has some differences when compared to the original. Some of them are due to the redesigned interface, and some are due to certain options that change the hero's starting stats.
  2. The first tab of the creator is race, and it contains all 10 races present in the original game - these are Argonians, Bretons, Dark Elves, High Elves, Imperials, Khajiit, Nords, Orcs, Redguards, and Wood Elves.
  3. The Open stats option (pressing the right stick on the controller) is very useful. It displays the starting statistics for a given race - these are Attributes and Skills. Green color indicates that a given attribute is higher for the current race, while red color warns that it is a weakness of that race.
  1. A new feature is the choice of origin visible at the bottom of the screen. This mechanic replaces the gender differences in stats that were present in the original. In the remaster, choosing gender (body type) does not affect the stats.
  2. There are always 2 origins available for a given race. After selecting one of them, the selected attributes may change (e.g. 10 points more or less to a stat).

Body type - character gender

The body type in the remaster replaces the classic gender selection that was present in the original game:

  1. Type 1 is a more feminine body type;
  2. Type 2 is a more masculine body type.

The choice of body type does not affect the hero's statistics. The first few options for changing the appearance are also available in the same tab. Age will allow you to make your character look older or younger. Skin tone will allow you to change the color of your entire body.

Head and hair

  1. In the next two tabs you can customize the appearance of the hero's face and hair. There you will find numerous sliders to make smaller or bigger adjustments. The game also allows you to apply makeup, change eye color, choose a hairstyle, or add facial hair, among other things.
  2. You can also let the game randomly select the hero's appearance, which is available in the first tab of the creator - the Randomize Appearance option (press Triangle/Y on the controller). If you want to undo your decisions, you can select Reset All (hold Triangle/Y). You will then revert to your character's default appearance.

Overview and character name

  1. The last tab is an overview and has contains a field for your character's name.
  2. In the Strengths section, the game will remind you of the most important advantages of your future hero - this is related to the previously selected race and origin.
  3. Clicking the Continue button closes the creator. The game will allow you to change all of your choices in the creator at the end of the prologue (go to the bottom of the page).

Choosing a zodiac sign

  1. While playing the Tutorial quest in the Imperial City Sewers, you'll see two more screens related to the character creator, and they look very similar to the base Oblivion.
  2. While traveling through the sewers, the hero will become separated from Emperor Uriel Septim and his guards, but you will later meet him again. During the conversation with the emperor, you must choose your Birthsign.
  3. Available Birthsigns are The Warrior, The Mage, Thief, The Steed, The Apprentice, The Shadow, The Ritual, The Atronach, The Tower, The Lord, The Lady, The Lover, and The Serpent. Depending on your choice, you may receive a specific permanent stat bonus (e.g. increase the Strength attribute by 10 points) or a unique skill (e.g. invisibility or being able to paralyse an enemy). Skills associated with Birthsigns may have a limit of 1 use per day.

Choosing a character class

Later, you will reach the place where the Emperor will give you the Amulet of Kings, starting a new quest - Deliver the Amulet.

After the defeating the assassin, you will talk to the guard Baurus and another decision will await you - choosing your character class. There are 3 specialization categories with different classes:

  1. Combat category - Warrior, Barbarian, Crusader, Knight, Archer, Scout, Rogue.
  2. Magic category - Mage, Sorcerer, Battlemage, Healer, Spellsword, Witchhunter, Nightblade.
  3. Stealth category - Thief, Agent, Acrobat, Assassin, Monk, Pilgrim, Bard.
  1. Each class is described with favored attributes and major skills - the listed skills get leveled up and will be easier to develop later. It is therefore important to choose a class that has skills related to the planned gameplay style.
  2. Alternatively, you can select Custom Class. It will allow you to manually select your major skills and favored attributes.

Leaving the sewers - last chance to make changes

  1. You can change all your previous choices at the end of the prologue. During the Deliver the Amulet quest, you will reach the Gate to City Island shown in the picture - it leads to the surface.

A window will appear with 4 options to choose from:

  1. Edit Identity - You can reopen the character creator and change everything there, e.g. choose a different race, gender, appearance or character name.
  2. Edit Birthsign - You can choose 1 out of the 13 Birthsigns.
  3. Edit Class - You can select a different class or create a custom class.
  4. Finished - Exit Sewers - This confirms that you have exited the sewers and your choices will become final. In the game world you will not find any unique locations, mechanics or NPCs to change the race, origin, gender, birthsign, class or appearance.
