Expedition 33: How to beat Goblu?

Where is Goblu?

Goblu can be found at the end of the Flying Waters region. The encounter will start right after you reach the Flower Field flag. The boss is mandatory and fighting him is required to make progress in the game.

Goblu's attacks

1. Jump - area attack. Goblu jumps on your entire team three times, dealing damage upon hitting the ground. Parry the attack, but watch out for the third strike, as it's delayed compared to the previous ones.
2. Combo - Goblu jumps towards you and performs several hand strikes. The blows are rhythmic, so it's easy to parry them. At first, it only performs two strikes, but their number increases when the boss absorbs the power of the flowers.
3. Crushing - Goblu jumps very high into the sky and does a somersault, then hits one character. It will be safer to dodge - the parrying window is not very intuitive and it occurs at the moment of impact, not just before it.
4. Flowers - the boss summons a few flowers. You can destroy them by shooting at them. If you don't destroy them, a few turns later Goblu will absorb the power of the flowers, which will give him armor and permanently increase the number of hits in his combo.

How to defeat Goblu?

Compared to the optional Bourgeon boss from an earlier part of the game, the Goblu boss fight features pretty simple mechanics. Goblu remains alone for the entirety of the encounter, he doesn't summon any reinforcements and doesn't deprive you of any team . The biggest threat to you will be a leap attack - you don't yet have the ability to heal the entire team, so don't let it hit you. Destroy the flowers so the boss can't absorb their power. Occasionally, the boss will equip armor; destroy it using multi-hit abilities or handle it with Maelle's Breaking Rules ability.

For defeating Goblu, you will receive:

1. 2,700 XP,
2. 1,330 Chroma,
3. Shape of Health x1,
4. Polished Chroma Catalyst x1,
5. Chroma Catalyst x3,
6. Recoat x1.
