Gargant is one of the optional bosses you may encounter in Expedition 33. On this guide page, we describe where to find the boss, how to defeat it, and what are the rewards for defeating it.
Where is Gargant?
Gargant is located inside the Monolith, the last story dungeon of Act 2. The Monolith consists of several areas, similar to previous regions; Gargant can be found in the snowy area modeled after the Monoco's Station.
Gargant's attacks
- Freezing laser - Gargant gathers cold air around itself and shoots a freezing laser from its maw. Observe the three streaks of air: at first, they go around the boss, forming a circle. Dodge when the streaks touch each other. A frozen character cannot attack, dodge or parry for several turns.
- Punches - Gargant deals six punches. The first four blows follow very quickly, one after the other. The fifth and sixth blows are somewhat slower: the boss performs a bigger, longer swing.
- Arm swings - Gargant deals four area attacks by wildly swinging its arms. First, there is one fairly quick attack. There's a slight delay before the second one. The third one's lightning-fast and followed by a heavily delayed strike from above.
How to defeat Garganta?
The fight with Gargant is based on a very simple mechanic: the boss changing its weaknesses throughout the encounter. Pay attention to the flames surrounding the boss's legs. When they are blue, the boss is weak to Fire and absorbs Ice. When they are red, the boss is weak to Ice and absorbs Fire. Lune and Maelle are therefore a good choice for this encounter. Maelle has access to powerful Fire skills, while Lune offers both Ice and Fire skills.
Pay particular attention to the freezing laser, which applies a very dangerous freezing status. Gargant uses it very often, so dodging will be safer than parrying. We recommend getting the Energising Cleanse Picto - it nullifies one negative effect per battle and you can buy it in the Monolith, from the merchant located at the very beginning of the region modeled after the Flying Waters (you must first defeat him in a duel).
Rewards for defeating Gargant
For defeating Gargant, you will receive:
- 144,780 XP;
- 8,520 Chroma;
- Resplendent Chroma Catalyst x3;
