Expedition 33: What are Lune's stains?
Stains are the basic combat mechanics of Lune. Its understanding can be quite difficult at first. From this guide page, you will learn how they work and how to best use them in combat.
Last update:
Lune plays the role of a sorceress in the party, with a wide arsenal of offensive, ive, and healing abilities. Almost all of them additionally rely on generating or absorbing special elemental stains. On this guide page, we will explain to you in detail how the stain mechanic works and how to use it in the most optimal way.
How do stains work?
Lune's skills generate special elemental stains, which accumulate up to a maximum of four. You can check the stains you have on the right side of the screen during the heroine's turn. Information about what stains will be generated after using the attack can be found in the upper right corner of the skill window, right next to the PA cost.
Stains are divided into 5 types:
- Ice stains;
- Fire stains;
- Lightning stains;
- Earth stains;
- Light stains.
Light stains function as a universal substitute for other stains and can be absorbed in place of stains of any other color.
What's important - if Lune already has four stains, and the used skill will generate more, the new stains will replace some of the previously owned ones.
Generating and accumulating stains is crucial when playing as Lune. Most of the character's skills have an additional effect, activated by absorbing a certain number of stains of a given type. For example: one of the basic healing skills, Healing Light, under normal conditions costs three Action Points. However, if you have at least two earth stains, they will be absorbed, and the Healing Light will not cost you a single AP.
What is the best way to use stains?
Generating appropriate stains and activating enhanced effects is crucial to unlock Lune's full potential. To fully master the mechanics, you need to learn to plan your next actions several turns ahead. It is important to find the right rhythm between generating and utilizing the collected stains.
Also that the effects absorbing stains are activated automatically. So if you want to save some of the necessary stains for the next turn, it's sometimes worth skipping Lune's turn or attacking with a basic attack so as not to accidentally use up the stains you need.
When choosing a skill set, make sure that the stains generated by them are as compatible as possible with the additional effects of other moves.
Also that some weapons for Lune have additional, ive effects affecting stains. For example, a level 20 upgraded Trebuchim allows for generating two random stains during a basic attack. You can find more about weapon upgrades on a separate page of the guide.
