Last update:
At the end of the second act, you will encounter Renoir again, one of the main antagonists of Expedition 33. He will confront you as the tenth mandatory boss in the game. On this guide page, we described where to find the boss, what his weak points are and what he is vulnerable to, as well as what the rewards are for defeating him.
Where is Renoir?
You will face Renoir for the second time at the end of the Monolith, where he is the last obstacle blocking your way to the Paintress. He awaits you right after reaching the Tower Peak flag. The boss is mandatory and fighting her is required to make progress in the game.
Renoir's attacks
- Combo attack - Renoir runs up to the party member and deals five blows with a cane. The first three follow immediately after each other, then there is a delay - Renoir jumps up before the fourth and fifth attack.
- Puddle of Chroma - area attack. Jump when the jump symbol disappears.
- Gradient explosion of Chroma - Renoir collects a huge amount of Chroma and does a gradient explosion. Pay attention to the ink lines in the Chroma orb, which align while the attack is charging. Perform a gradient counter when all three lines are set vertically, horizontally, and diagonally.
- Triple Chroma explosion - Renoir gathers a huge amount of Chroma and causes three explosions. Pay attention to the ink lines in Chroma orb, which align when the attack is charging, and parry when all three lines align vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. The explosions occur rhythmically one after another, but the third explosion is gradient - perform a gradient counter.
- Chroma waves - area attack. Renoir shoots five waves of Chroma. Pay attention to the Chroma accumulating around him and parry when it almost disappears. The first four waves follow rhythmically one after the other, but there is a significant delay before the fifth.
- Ranged combo - Renoir performs a combination of four blows. Dodge a moment after he raises the cane above his head, when he makes a thrust, a moment after two pirouettes, and a moment after he jumps.
- Creature's tail - the Dark Creature performs a single gradient attack. Perform a gradient counter when the creature starts to move.
- Creature's claws - the Dark Creature performs three claw strikes. Parry the first two blows when the beast raises its paw. Be ready, the first attack will happen a fraction of a second after the beast appears. Parry the third blow a fraction of a second after the beast reaches the highest point of its jump.
- Creature's leap - the Dark Creature jumps towards the expedition and performs two area attacks. The first blow will come shortly after the beast appears - parry when the beast starts to absorb Chroma around it. Then jump when the jump symbol disappears.
- Creature's roar - the Dark Creature roars, firing three projectiles. Run away as soon as you see the blue flames surrounding its maw.
How to defeat Renoir?
The first phase of the fight with Renoir is identical to the previous encounter with him. Once again, the boss is neutral to all elements. When you reduce the boss's health to half, Renoir will summon and absorb the Dark Creature, which will heal him to full. The Dark Creature is not an additional target, you still only fight Renoir - it serves as his additional set of moves. From now on, Renoir will attack twice per turn. One of the attacks is always performed by Renoir, and the other is performed by the Dark Creature. Save your gradient attacks for the second half of the fight, during which the enemy is significantly more dangerous. In the fight against Renoir, you will not encounter any unique mechanics, the boss only tries to overwhelm you with the number of attacks.
Rewards for defeating Renoir
For defeating Renoir you will receive:
- 144,780 XP;
- 8,520 Chroma;
- Picto - Second Chance - once per fight, a fallen character will be automatically resurrected with full health.
- Renoir's suit - outfit for Verso,
- Resplendent Chroma Catalyst x3.
