Picto and lumins are one of the main mechanics in Expedition 33, both of which are dependent on each other. On this page of the guide, we have described how picto and lumins work and how to increase lumins points.
Last update:
Picto and Lumina are extremely important mechanics in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, both being heavily dependent on one another. They replace the typical RPG equipment system and drastically affect your performance in combat. On this page of our guide we've described how Picto and Lumina work, as well as how to increase your number of Lumina Points.
What are Picto?
Picto are amulets of sorts, serving as your primary equipment. Each playable character can equip up to three Picto at once, which can be freely swapped from the party menu. Picto can be found while exploring the world or dropped by defeated enemies.
Each Picto consists of two parts:
- ive bonuses increase the character's stats, such as health or crit chance, by the specified amount while the Picto is equipped.
- Lumina effects are modifiers granting said character unique traits in combat, such as a chance to inflict status effects or increased AP gain. Both the ive bonus and Lumina effect only apply to the character who'd equipped the Picto.
After the character wins four fights with the Picto equipped, the whole party will learn its Lumina effect. You can see how many battles you have left by looking at the golden border around the Picto. Mastered Lumina effects become available in the Lumina menu. We therefore recommend equipping either unmastered Picto or Picto of the highest level, as they'll give you the largest stat bonuses. The only way to level up a Picto is by finding its duplicate.
What are Lumina?
After learning a Picto's Lumina, it becomes available to the entire party. All of the expedition can now equip this effect (only the effect, not the ive stat bonus) in the Lumina menu. The amount of Lumina you can equip depends on the character's number of Lumina Points. Since Lumina vary in points cost, it may prove worthwhile to equip Picto with expensive Lumina - this will give you their effect and let you spend the points on more cheaper Lumina.
How to get more Lumina Points?
There are two ways to increase your number of Lumina Points.
- Each level up rewards a character with a new Lumina Point.
- You can also use consumables, Colour of Lumina, to permanently increase a character's Lumina Points by one. Colour of Lumina can only be used at camp, after meeting the Curator at the Flying Waters area.
