Where is Renoir?
Renoir is waiting for you at the end of the last location, which is Lumiere in Act 3. You will find him right at the crooked Eiffel Tower in the city center. He is the final boss of the main storyline - after defeating him, all that remains is the end of the game.
Renoir's attacks (first phase)
- Basic attack - Renoir gently swings the brush and creates two area explosions. Jump over the first one when the jump symbol disappears and parry the second one, just a split second before Renoir's brush touches the ground.
- Strike combo - Renoir delivers five strikes. First, he swings the brush twice, then he flies up to you, deals two quick sword strikes, and then delivers the last blow with a significant delay. The first three blows are preceded by a short cry from Renoir.
- Black hole - Renoir creates a black hole above himself, which explodes, causing massive area damage. Parry right after hearing a loud, metallic sound.
- Void cross - Renoir cuts two streaks into reality, which explode after a moment, inflicting massive damage on one of the party . Dodge right after the streaks disappear.
- Building throw - one of the axons in the background, the Hauler, throws a building at you. The camera will show the space behind the characters - dodge right after the building emerges on the horizon.
Renoir's attacks (second phase)
- Quick combo - Renoir deals six brush strikes. The first blow comes a moment after the pirouette, the second a moment later. The third comes with a slight delay, while the fourth is an immediate one. The fifth is only mildly delayed and the sixth one is heavily delayed.
- Crazy combo - Renoir flies up to you and deals eight sword strikes. The first blow comes after the boss twists the blade in his hand, the second comes a moment later. The third follows after a delay, the fourth and fifth come immediately, the sixth - after a microscopic delay, and the seventh one is dealt after a slightly longer delay. The first blow is a gradient attack - wait a moment before performing a gradient counterattack.
- A pool of darkness - Renoir rises into the air, then creates three explosions. Listen to him - just before each explosion, you will hear a characteristic sound. Parry just before the boss hits the ground, and when you see the energy gathering around him.
- Void meteors - Renoir summons five meteors and throws them at the team. The first meteor hits the ground with a slight delay, the rest hit in a steady, fast rhythm.
- Unleashing power - Renoir's ultimate attack, which he uses when he has half of his health left. Renoir circles the entire arena while flying in the air, then delivers four powerful area blows. Listen for the sharp, metallic sound cue and dodge a moment after the sound stops.
How to defeat Renoir?
Renoir is neutral to all elements. As befits the final battle, there are no unique mechanics here: it's a test of all the skills you have acquired so far, especially parrying. In the first phase, beware especially of the black hole and the Void cross, as these are his most destructive attacks. Renoir has a huge amount of health, so Maelle is essential here with her newly acquired Paintress skills; equipping her with the Painted Power lumina, obtained by defeating the Paintress, and using Stendahl in a Virtuose Stance will result in massive damage.
In the middle of the first phase, Renoir calls for the help of axons. They do not participate directly in the fight, but they can grant him shields (Visages) and buffs (Reacher), or they can throw buildings at you (Hauler). At the end of the phase, Sirene will fully restore Renoir's health, which will indicate the start of the second phase of the fight.
At the beginning of the phase, Renoir will enter the Dessendre family's canvas, which will give him permanent Powerful, Shell, and Rush buffs. You can get rid of these buffs by applying corresponding debuffs to him. There are many ways to do this, depending on your build and equipped skills, but the most efficient one is Sciel's second gradient attack: it will apply all debuffs to Renoir at once.
In the second phase of the fight, Renoir no longer has any additional tricks up his sleeve, and the Paintress will keep restraining his axons in the background. When Renoir's only has half of his health left, he will use his most powerful attack, unleashing his power. He will try to do it again when his health drops to a critical level, but Maelle will stop him in a scripted cutscene, ending the fight.
